I have a product (on OS X) that is sensitive to changes in the Office applications. My current solution is to archive a copy of each Office app after updates and only install my product on users' systems if a known version is present. Aug 23, 2016 Office 2016 for Mac 64-bit upgrade. Mac Office Updates Manual Download
Microsoft releases security and quality updates for the Click-To-Run (C2R) version of Office 2016 and for Office 2019, which is exclusively C2R. These updates are released approximately once a month, usually on the second Tuesday of the month.
If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them. Or click ”More info” to see details about each update and select specific updates to install. When Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, macOS and all of its apps are also up to date. If the Update option is missing or you're unable to update, try Microsoft Update to install your Office updates through Windows. To download an update manually, see Office Updates. If you would like to update Office but can't open any of your Office apps, try repairing your Office suite: Go to Control Panel Programs Uninstall a program. On the Go menu, click Applications. Open the Microsoft Office 2011 folder, and then start any Office application. (For example, start Microsoft Word). On the application menu, click About. In the About dialog box, note the version number that is displayed. The number should be 14.1.0 or a later version. These updates are released approximately once a month, usually on the second Tuesday of the month. If you'd like to verify that you're up to date, check your Office version number and manually update Office if necessary. - Under Product Information, note the version number under the About section.
If the version number matches the most current version, you're up to date. If not, you can manually update to get the latest version of Office. To update Office, follow these steps.
The following tables provide the update history for the volume licensed version of Office 2019, as well as the retail versions of Office 2016 C2R and Office 2019, with the most recent release date listed first. The tables include the version and build number for the release and list the security updates that are included, along with a link to more information about the security update.
New versions contain all the updates contained in previous versions.

Office for Mac that comes with an Office 365 subscription is updated on a regular basis to provide new features, security updates, and non-security updates. The following information is primarily intended for IT professionals that are deploying Office for Mac to the users in their organizations.

Mac Office 2016 Manual Update
- Starting with Version 16.21, Microsoft Teams will be installed by default for new installations if you're using the Office suite install package. For more information, see Microsoft Teams installations on a Mac.
- For security reason, Microsoft has deprecated the use of SHA-1. Learn more
- Starting with the 16.17 release in September 2018, this information also applies to Office 2019 for Mac, which is a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase from a retail store or through a volume licensing agreement.
- The update history information for version 16.16 and earlier also applies to Office 2016 for Mac, which is also a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase. Older versions up to and including 16.16 can be activated with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. You can’t activate version 16.17 or later with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license.
