    Just wanted to add my sincere thanks.
    I wonder how big the market actually is for mac gamers, and again mac gamers with top spec iMacs or Mac pros..
    This is great, just hope Atilla gets a Mac release fairly early doors..
    Edit: Hmmm.. Just tried the 4TPY mod and the 'better' campaign camera mod, but neither seem to work having followed the instructions above.. Thing is, the mod creators are (on the whole) not going to be of much help, with getting their mods to work on Mac..

    many thanks

    Is this a serious request?

    I can't get Radious total war mod to work either. I'm pretty sure I followed the tutorial though. Might the problem be that I had to make my own user.script.txt file?

    Most of the issues could well have little to do with attempting to get these mods to work on mac and more that the mod creator has not yet updated their work to the latest version.. At the time of writing this post the Emperor Edition is not very old..
    Try following the OP with a mod that clearly states it had been updated for the latest build.
    What I would personally most like to see is Mac versions or workarounds for all the modding tools. If anyone at CA can post any tips on how to say, get PFM to work? I would be over the moon with joy.
    Also are there any plans on releasing the Rome II Assembly Kit for Mac?

    Not sure if it is the mod being out of date completely, as the mods I've tried to get working have all been updated to Empire Edition and none of those worked which is a shame.

    The Radious mod clearly states it has been updated to emperor edition, so that's not the problem. I just hope CA will open the Steam workshop, as they did with Shogun 2, that'll make things a lot easier

    Have to agree, I've tried mods that clearly state updated for Emperor Edition as well.. but nothing..
    I am familiar with installing mods this way from before the mod manager, when I had a PC. So I am pretty sure I am not going wrong anywhere.
    Any update on this issue from an official?

    I've tried multiple mods and so far I haven't got any of them to work. Has anyone figured out a mod that does?

    Have been trying this with Divide et impera 0.96 (which to my knowledge is latest version and compatible with the Emperor edition) with no success. But i heard of people who were able to install the mod, so there should be no reason why it doesnt work on my mac (right???). Had to create the user.script.txt myself with the continuing problem that it wants to make a .rtf file out of the file I saved as a .txt file. But even if i save it as a .txt file rome 2 simple doesnt react and start absolutely normal.
    PLS help
    Just tried starting over the normal .exe in the Total War: Rome 2 folder and now in the main menu of the game it tells me to restart rome 2 to activate a new dlc. Since i havent bought any DLC i think its reffering to the mod i put into data and wrote into user.script.txt. But if i do as asked and restart the game only the same message pops up (never had it before and have blood and gore and greek states dlc on my game). So the mod has been somehow found by the game but its not yet activating in the right way.
    PLS help

    Might be an issue with the user.script.txt... TextEdit wanted to save mine as an .rtf file as well & I'm not sure just renaming the file as a .txt will do the trick..
    I used Pages instead, which was capable of saving the file in .txt format, but again, I still had no luck..
    Saying this, you have said others have succeeded in getting mods to work on their Macs and CA posted this thread so it must be possible..

    Well its now worked for me using the latest Divide et Impera...
    Here what made the difference:
    The naming in the user.script.txt is what did it, instead of
    _Divide_et_Impera096.pack;
    (which did not work)
    I did this:
    mod '_Divide_et_Impera096.pack';
    Yes including the word 'mod' at the beginning and including the quotation marks.. The mod loaded without incident straight away after this change to the user.script.txt

    This looks to be exactly it, it looks like CA made a typo, the semicolon should be outside the quotations as in this thread

    A follow-up now that I've actually tried it, instead of the mods not loading, it just force crashes the game at the loading screen for any mod I try to load through the user script file. Next I tried clearing the mods and loading it clean, and now my background is the radius mod, but I don't get any other features. Help?
    edit: If anyone else is still having trouble, remove the quotation marks, solved my issues. Now user script file looks like
    mod Radious_Graphics_Mod.pack;

    Very strange that some of us need to include the quotation marks and others need to remove them.. However I think this solves the issue, maybe a moderator could add this extra bit of info to the OP?

    I removed the quotation marks as well and all the mods started working!

    Hey thanks first of all, especially legofingers, for the tech support. I am already one step nearer.
    I am not sure if my next problem is very computer specific: I am playing on a MacBookPro Retina..... with a flashdrive 120GB. To my rough understanding this means that normal space on this special hard drive is used as working space (RAM?). srry im very bad with computers.:)
    Problem is now the following: I start Rome 2 and instead of loading normal game right away (which indicated i did something wrong with installing the mod) its stuck on the loading screen, leaving me somewhat relieved but also more and more frustrated.
    It doesnt really crash, but after some time it says start volume is almost full and in the end it doesnt react and i have to close it. I have freed 45GB and vanilla worked with 10 GB free so i just dont know wether the loading is still crashing or loading Divide et impera mod 096 really uses up 40 GB of working space. Does anybody else play on a flashdrive? What is more probably the problem? What can i do now?
    Forgot to say i tried leaving out the quotation marks, with no result. Dont know if i have the same problem as u did cramezid.

    I was able to activate mods, but only one at a time. I can activate radious mod just fine (crashes here and there) and I wanted to also add in a few other mods, but I can only get the first one loaded to load at all.
    Can more than one mod be activated?
    I tried using the the method
    mod 'name_of_mod.pack';
    but that made my game crash so I used just
    mod name_of_mod.pack
    and it launched fine.

    ModDb and other such sites have the mods. From there just follow the instructions that CA has put up to install the said mod. http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/137170-ROME-II-Mac-version-FAQ?p=1241207&viewfull=1#post1241207

    Thanks, but I am at a loss. I went on MODdb and the download links bring you back to steam workshop. There's also only a few Mods, compared to hundreds in the steam workshop. I just don't understand why Steam would not allow you to download the .pack through the workshop. Anyway if there's any other site recommended for Mac mods for TWR please let me know.
    Appreciate it

    It's a little bit of a pain, but you can get your mods through Steam.
    1) Go to your Steam folder in Application support (see the 1st post on how to get there)
    2) Inside your Steam folder you'll see a folder called: userdata
    3) Open that folder up and you'll see a folder with a number, open it up
    4) Inside that folder you'll see some more folders with names and numbers, open the folder titled: ugc
    5) Inside here you'll see a folder called: referenced
    6) Open that up
    7) Inside you'll now see a series of folders (assuming you've subscribed to more than 1 mod) each named with a string of numbers
    8) Now comes the somewhat tedious part (again depends upon how many mods you've subscribed across every game). Start expanding each folder and inside you'll find another folder called: mods
    9) Inside of each mods folder inside of each numbered folder you need to look for something like this: <filename>.pack
    From here you need to copy the file(s) and follow the steps in the first post (and or mind the quotes in your user.script.txt file. Don't delete these files as these are the actual files that Steam maintains. Simply copy them over.
    On a side note I have no idea what will happen when/if modding gets fixed to work properly from Steam. When that happens you might need to blow away the copies files. Also if Steam updates any of the files keep in mind that you'll need to copy the updated files found in the nested directory I just described again. They won't update on their own until Rome gets fixed to work with Steam on the Mac.

    Interesting. I wasn't even aware that they had ported ETW yet. In any case I'm not sure how you could possibly get mods to work on the Mac version. I would have thought that it'd be better to get the PC version of ETW and run it with Bootcamp. That way you'd definitely have mod support. For the most part, scripts made by modders are exclusively meant for the original PC version; the modder would need to have the Mac version himself to write a mod for it. That'd be a lot of work.
    As it is, I have no clue. Maybe someone else can help you, or you can do these two things.
    Go to Feral Interactive support and ask them: http://support.feralinteractive.com/en/
    Or go to the TWC. They have a much larger wealth of modding knowledge there.
    Good luck!

    Best bet would be to ask if anyone there has tried porting their mods for the Feral version on Mac, or if anyone can fix your slowness problem with Parallels.

    i really hope they do port there mods to Macs. the game could really do with some improvements
  • edited May 2013
    Hi guys, I know this is quite late on this thread but here is the easiest way i have found to mod Ferals mac version.
    What you need is the mods .pack files, some mods are manual install and you can just download the folders straight to your mac downloads folder but some come as an .exe installer so you will need a wrapper, something like wineskin, to install/download it to your desktop. It may not always work but if it does it should just download the mods folders onto you desktop (don't worry there are no folders installed anywhere else on your mac). The mod will usually have a folder named something like 'data' with the .pack file in.
    So...
    What you want to do is right click on the etw app and go to 'show package contents', then open Contents->Resources->Data->data, you will see the games standard .pack files. Now I would suggest either making a copy of this to your desktop or what I did was just change the colour of the mod files name labels, just so I could tell them apart and delete them if anything went wrong.
    You will need to drag all the .pack file for the mod into this 'data' folder
    Once that is done, open the app and you should get the pre-game options window (as with most Feral ports).
    Go to the 'About' tab and click 'Open preferences folder'
    From there go to AppData->scripts->preferences.empire_script.txt, again you may want to backup this .txt file to your desktop or something
    In the 'preferences.empire_script.txt' file, The second line of text should say 'exit #' click in front of this and press return/enter once to start a new line.
    Now for each .pack file of the mod you will want to type this formula...
    mod 'name of .pack file';
    mod 'name of .pack file';
    mod 'name of .pack file';
    etc... for each .pack of the mod one under the other like shown (make sure you include the .pack file extension after each name)
    At this point you can play the mod, just close the file and click play. BUT...
    Make a copy of this new txt code you've just written and save it in a separate .txt file, I saved mine right next to the 'preferences.empire_script.txt' folder for easy access
    The reason for this is that once you close the game the txt you added will disappear (not sure how to fix this) but anyway you will need to copy and paste this new code in the same place every time you want to play with the mod so saving it in a separate .txt means you can just copy/paste instead of typing out all the mod 'name of .pack file'; lines again.
    I hope I made this detailed and clear enough, I know it seems like quite a round about way but once you've done it once and saved your mod code it should be easy enough. And playing etw with mods is so much better than playing without. hopefully you can get your mods to work. send a reply if you get stuck

    Thanks for the guide Max. I used it to try to run quite a few mods on my mac. Some worked and some did not.
    I found that mods like Darth Mod and Imperial Splendour were the most difficult, so far I have only got parts to work, not the entire mod.
    I also started a thread where I am trying to compile a list of functioning Mods that I have tested on the Mac.
    You can find the thread here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?638175-Mac-Mod-Guide&p=13566590#post13566590
    If you are a mac user and you download a mod that uses a .exe for Empire or Napoleon, this wrapper will open most of them:
